We are proud to emphasize the importance of live music in this recording-driven age of technology.  Consortium Aurora Borealis brings artists and audiences together in a warm, supportive, relaxing ambiance right in front of you. We especially seek to attract younger concert-goers.  People are aware of our popularity, the delightful music presented, the vitality and excellence manifested in our performances, the excitement we generate, and the enthusiasm always displayed by our audiences!

Accessible and Affordable

We are committed to making classical music accessible to everyone through our reasonably-priced, intimate, friendly, and engaging concerts.  Our audience includes a very diverse group of people from all ages and walks of life, from students through to seniors. Please see our admissions page for more information.

Music

Baroque and Beyond! Starting out as Northwestern Ontario’s premier early music group, which focussed on performing music from the Baroque era, we later expanded the range of our repertoire to cover a great many eras of classical music, while retaining our firm commitment to the Baroque period. On occasion we even venture into the present age, for example presenting music written or arranged by local violist and composer Patrick Horn.

Pre-Concert Talks

Our goal is to both educate and entertain.  Informative blogs, provided by our Artistic Director, are posted on our website for each concert, and serve as programme notes. These highlight specific themes or other elements to watch out for in the music, and also heighten awareness of historical context, styles, genres, and provide insights into the composers and the compositions to be presented. A performing musician other authority on the music at hand may also say a few words at the opening of the concert.

Up Close with the Artists

Our concerts almost exclusively feature local musicians; however, we sometimes engage distinguished artists from Toronto and elsewhere to come and perform for us.  Our mission seeks to help improve the quality of life in our community, as we present  high-quality, professional performances of music seldom heard in our area.
